Key structures in the PLAX view
The parasternal long axis (PLAX) view is your ‘home view’ in echocardiography, and it is worth spending the time to get it right. You need this view to be able to navigate to other views; your RV inflow and outflow views hinge around a good PLAX starting point, as do your short-axis views.
If you are learning echocardiography right now, do not be in a rush to move onto other views, because once you have truly mastered the coordination to bring your PLAX view on-axis and avoid foreshortening, you can apply these same skills to all subsequent views.
