Frequently asked questions
How are you able to offer teaching for free?
We are analysing improvements in understanding over time, and using this data for my BHF-funded PhD at Imperial College, London. That is why every 6th quiz you receive provides no feedback: it is designed to track your improvement over time. We are only interested in the group trends and are not looking at the performance of any individual, so you do not need to feel self-conscious!
Can you give me advice on how I can do a PhD at Imperial College?
This is a really common question, and unfortunately I cannot. My own path was different from most – I began as a Research Sonographer on someone else’s research grant, before applying for my own funding later down the line. I do not know how PhDs work for medical doctors and cannot advise you on this.
Are there any other studies I can get involved in?
Yes! I am also running a study on the impacts of artificial intelligence assistance when reporting echocardiograms. This is not suitable for total beginners as it requires you to be able to already report your own POCUS-level studies (e.g. FUSIC or FICE), but it does not require any experience with spectral Doppler. To take part, you will need to be able to devote enough time to report 30 focused echocardiograms, ideally in under 6 weeks. This will take about 3 hours of your time in total. If you are interested in taking part, please email me: c.stowell@imperial.ac.uk
Are you offering financial payment to participate in any of your studies?
No. These opportunities are for people who are serious about learning and improving in echocardiography, and know the impact these skills have on their own lives, job satisfaction, and patient outcomes.
